THE DEMONE STORY

Where Ferromagnetic Science Meets Musical Truth

Born from decades of research into what makes music emotionally compelling, the Grandinote Demone stands as the absolute pinnacle of the Magnetosolid-VHP platform — an amplifier that refuses to compromise between analytical precision and human warmth.

THE MAKER

Massimiliano Magri & the Grandinote Vision

Founded in 2004 by engineer Massimiliano Magri — "Max" to friends and admirers worldwide — Grandinote Audio operates from the quiet province of Lombardy, about thirty miles south of Milan, Italy.

Max earned his degree in electronic engineering in 1997, and by 1996 had already built his first amplifier — a tube design, with every output transformer wound by hand. Those years of intimate transformer craftsmanship became the direct foundation for what would become Magnetosolid technology: a discovery, published around 2002, that tube circuit topologies could be realised entirely with solid-state components, not only achieving the same rich harmonic textures but surpassing tube designs in speed, bass authority, and longevity.

Today Grandinote's small team of eight exports to 32 countries. Every product is handbuilt, to exacting artisan standards, with the expectation that it will last a lifetime.

"When you listen to Grandinote, you forget to listen to tubes, you forget to listen to solid state — you listen only to music."

MASSIMILIANO MAGRI — GRANDINOTE FOUNDER

In 45 years of reviewing audio equipment, the respected German magazine Audio has awarded its maximum score of 140 points to exactly three products. The most recent recipient was the Grandinote Demone monoblock amplifiers — a distinction that speaks not just to measured performance but to the rare emotional authority these amplifiers command.

The Demone's name is deliberate. It suggests something untamed, something that refuses the ordinary — qualities that surface immediately the moment music plays.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Magnetosolid-VHP: A Technology Unlike Any Other

The Magnetosolid Principle

The name unites "ferromagnetic" and "solid state." Tube amplifier circuit topologies are implemented entirely without tubes — their output transformers retained and refined. This preserves the harmonic richness, absence of parasitic capacitance, and natural tone of the finest tube designs while delivering the bandwidth, damping, and dynamic authority of solid state.

VHP Output Transformers

The Demone uses a proprietary ferromagnetic core material tested over years of experimentation. It achieves a primary inductance more than ten times greater than a standard core with identical wire geometry — dramatically raising the damping factor, extending frequency response at both frequency extremes, and rendering voices with a naturalness that standard transformer designs cannot approach. The cost is considerable; the result is extraordinary.

Zero Feedback, Zero Capacitors

Every stage in the Demone operates in pure Class A. No global or local feedback of any kind is applied — the output signal never returns to the input. All low-signal stages are direct-coupled, with no capacitors in the signal path. Each device receives its own independent, dedicated power supply circuit — a topology that Magri credits as essential for three-dimensional spatial imaging and the precise placement of instruments in the soundstage.

TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE

The Demone is the evolution of the Grandinote Futura, differentiated principally by its output stage. Where the Futura employed the standard Magnetosolid transformer core, the Demone's VHP (Very High Performance) stage uses that rare, costly proprietary core — making the Demone the highest expression of what Magnetosolid technology can achieve.

The Demone is configured as a true balanced monoblock. A single XLR input accepts a fully balanced signal, and the circuit maintains balanced topology throughout. There is no single-ended option, no compromise. Each channel is a self-contained instrument — its own chassis, its own power transformer, its own thermal management.

Those who listen expecting 60 watts are consistently surprised. Reviewers and owners alike report that the Demone sounds "nowhere near its specified 60W, but almost double the power" — a consequence of the extraordinary damping factor and the way the amplifier controls a loudspeaker's driver with a grip that most amplifiers of any power rating cannot match.

THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE

Music Rendered Without Apology

The Demone does not interpret music. It presents it — boldly, completely, and with a sense of effortless authority that few amplifiers, at any price, can claim.

Reviewers across Europe and North America consistently reach for the same words: speed that feels instantaneous; tone that is warm but never saturated; a soundstage that extends both horizontally and vertically with a sense of air and three-dimensionality rarely associated with solid-state designs.

The damping factor above 230 — remarkable for a transformer-coupled design — gives the Demone a command over bass frequencies that tube amplifiers can only aspire to. Yet this control never becomes clinical. Leading edges arrive with the correct weight and immediacy; sustained notes decay naturally, with the harmonic complexity that distinguishes live music from reproduction.

Listeners who have paired the Demone with partnering Grandinote preamplifiers — particularly the Genesi — describe an experience of "emotional realism" that proves difficult to surrender. The system as a whole functions as a single coherent instrument, painting the musical canvas with what one long-form review called "true and natural colours, as well as spot-on pigments of detail."

"Demone encompasses the timeless qualities of tubes, infused with solid-state advantages. Even a trained listener will have a hard time recognising the non-tube inner heart — but will readily discern exuberant detail, dense harmonics, lightning-fast speed, and unreserved dynamic impact."

MONO & STEREO — ULTIMATE HIGH FIDELITY REVIEW

"Instruments and voices are much better delineated in space. Around them there is much more air. I very much felt the sense of being there."

SYSTEM INTEGRATION

The Demone in Context

The Demone rewards careful system matching. Its fully balanced, zero-feedback architecture responds with extraordinary transparency to the quality of what precedes it. While it will drive virtually any loudspeaker — its damping factor and current delivery are not impedance-sensitive — the amplifier's character emerges most fully when fed by a preamplifier of equivalent resolution.

Partnering Preamplification

The Grandinote Genesi reference preamplifier is the natural companion — sharing the same zero-feedback, no-capacitor, Class A topology. Reviewers who have assembled the complete Grandinote chain describe a sense of harmonic and dynamic coherence that multi-brand systems rarely achieve. The Domino preamplifier offers a slightly more accessible entry into the Grandinote partnership.

Loudspeaker Compatibility

The Demone's damping factor of over 230 — extraordinary for a transformer-coupled design — grants it formidable bass authority with virtually any loudspeaker. Owners have reported exceptional synergy with high-resolution ribbon and planar-ribbon designs, as well as with the Grandinote Mach loudspeaker series, whose crossoverless topology benefits greatly from the Demone's zero-feedback drive.

Physical Installation

At 30 kilograms each, the Demone monoblocks are serious objects. Each requires its own power cable, dedicated circuit, and thoughtful placement — ideally on a bespoke Grandinote stand or equivalent isolation platform. The chassis runs warm in Class A operation; adequate ventilation and space around each unit is essential. These are not amplifiers that reward casual placement.
